Establishment of the Village
Eleven years after Abram Walrod settled on the Huron River, Commerce Village was established.
In 1834, it was considered its own township, but it wasn't until 1836 that the land was platted and made into a village.
It was given the name Commerce in hopes that it would become a center for Commercial activity.
